More details regarding the officer-involved shooting in Red River County last week have been released.
According to reports, a Red River County sheriff’s deputy was on his way to the jail when he noticed a man sitting in a car and smoking cigarettes near the sally port of the jail. When the deputy approached him, the man stepped out of his car with a weapon. Sources say after the deputy ordered the man to put down the weapon, the man reached into his car and grabbed a second weapon, now wielding one in each hand.
It is believed the man then raised the weapons toward the deputy, who opened fire. Dash and body cameras caught the incident and are being reviewed by Texas Rangers.
The identity of the man has not been released.
