This year’s Lucky Leprechaun 5K is set for Saturday and will benefit Mount Pleasant Optimist Club.
Hosted by Mount Pleasant Running Company, the 5K will begin at 8 a.m. The route will start at the Chamber of Commerce, 1604 N. Jefferson Avenue and travel around the civic center through the fairgrounds. From there, runners will cross Washington Avenue and into the Industrial Park area.
“This year we invited the local Venturing Crew to help work the race with us and are using the race as a fundraiser for the Mt. Pleasant Optimist Club,” said Kelley Blevins, owner of Mount Pleasant Running Company. “We have several local businesses sponsoring the event, as well. All proceeds will go toward to club.”
Registration is $25 and can be made online by clicking here or in-person at the MPRC store, 116 W. 3rd Street from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Participants will get a T-shirt, drawstring bag and beer mug for finishing. Awards will also be given for first overall male and female, along with first- and second-place winners for each age group. Corporate sponsors include: Round Eye Sushi Guy, Shumate Flooring, Christine Ballard-ReMax, Thrivent, Pilgrim Bank, Stacie Nelson-Refeard, Everybody’s Furniture, Cici’s Pizza and Randy’s Burgers.
“You can also register at the race Saturday from 7-7:45 a.m.,” Blevins said. “We’re hoping to help the Optimist Club build the leaders of tomorrow by investing in our local youth today.”
