Mount Pleasant Police Department has warned businesses to be aware of a man allegedly passing more than $85,000 in hot checks around East Texas.

The Police Department, in a statement on social media, said asks business owners to check account numbers and the name on the check.

“The check shown is written on a closed account,” Mount Pleasant police said. “The color of the check shown is not the original color when the check was written. The suspect has been writing checks buying vehicles, jewelry and other items.”

According to police, more than $85,000 worth of hot checks have been written in Mount Pleasant. Police said other checks have been written in Marshall, Omaha, Pittsburg, Texarkana and Gilmer.

“We expect many more hot checks to be reported,” said police. “This man is on the run and is extremely deceptive. He is believed to be driving a new truck purchased with a stolen check from another community.”

Police ask if a hot check is received from John Granger in Mount Pleasant to contact the Mount Pleasant Police Department at 903-575-4004.
