Police urge citizens to lock their vehicles, multiple burglaries overnight

The Mt. Pleasant Police Department is reminding citizens to lock their vehicle doors following several reports of burglaries.

“Suspects simply opened unlocked vehicle doors,” said the department. “We want to remind residents to take extra care and avoid becoming a victim of a vehicle burglary.”

The rule of Lock, Take and Hide protects you from falling victim.

  • Lock your car
  • Take your keys
  • Hide your possessions

“The next step that if you see something, you should say something,” said the department. “Report suspicious activity. If you see someone acting suspicious, call 911.”

The City of Mt. Pleasant has a curfew for individuals under 17, anyone breaking this curfew can be reported. The department added that most vehicle burglaries are crime of opportunity after leaving car doors unlocked. By spending a few seconds to make sure your vehicle is locked then you could save a lot of time and trouble by avoiding becoming a victim.
