After nearly 50 years of business, Hoovers Jewelry is closing.

“We’ve been here a long time,” said David Hoover, owner. “We’re ready to take a step back and spend time with our grandchildren.”

Traveling is also on the itinerary for David and his wife, Wyn.

“There’s plenty to see here in the states and we’re ready to see it,” he said.

David said he started working at the store when he was about 9 years old, when his parents bought it in 1969.

“I started full-time in 1977,” he said. “I’ve been working here ever since.”

A final date has not yet been set. Until then, the store will have sales up to 70 percent off.

“It’s important to mention that my daughter’s business, Diamond T Outfitters will not be closing,” he said.

Hoovers Jewelry is at 213 N. Madison Avenue in Mt. Pleasant. For more information, call 903-577-8183.
