A teenager from Michigan who had been missing for more than 200 days has been found safe in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, according to officials and family members. Kaitlin disappeared from her family home in May of 2018 and had not been heard from since.
That is, until Monday when she reached out to her mother on the phone.
“Kaitlyn reached out to me,” her mother, Kristi Leonard, posted on Facebook. “I’m beyond excited and can’t even describe the happiness I feel in my heart right now.”
Arenac County Undersheriff Don McIntyre said arrangements have been made for Kristi to travel to Mt. Pleasant to retrieve her daughter. Once home, investigators will interview the teen to find out what happened.
Until then, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are a mystery.
McIntyre told MLive.com that every indication they have had up until this point points to a runaway-type of situation.
“Kaitlyn is healthy and in good spirits,” Kristi said. “I’m forever grateful for every share, message and prayer. Thank you just doesn’t seem to be enough. I’m slowly getting to each and every message. I will continue to receive prayers as we start the healing process.”
