The Titus County Election Commission is currently seeking an Elections Administrator.
The Office of Elections Administrator was filled for the first time back in 2005 when Leonard Rockwell was hired. After Rockwell’s retirement, Krissy Lytle was selected as his replacement. As the executive in charge, the Elections Administrator has full responsibility for the office, currently located at 110 S. Madison. The office maintains voter rolls and conducts elections on behalf of the county, city, college, hospital and school districts.
Judge Brian Lee is one of five members of the county Election Commission that is responsible for the selection of the Elections Administrator. Other members of the Commission include Judy Cook, Tax Assessor-Collector; Joan Newman, County Clerk; Sue Evenwell, Republican Party Chair and Leonard Rockwell, Democratic Party Chair.
Lee noted that there will be a city and school election in May of 2019 that will require immediate attention.
“Our goal, as the Election Commission is to hire a qualified, detail-oriented manager that will keep our elections running smoothly,” Lee said. “With 16,000 registered voters, this requires continual roll maintenance to ensure that voters have the appropriate voting rights according to their city/county residence, their commissioner precinct, and voter box location. When it’s election time, residents want to be able to cast their vote quickly and accurately knowing that they are properly registered.”
Lee continued, “Staffing an election with judges and volunteers, coordinating with the political parties, preparing voting equipment and signage, and educating voters is a demanding job. Every small detail is important, and failure to execute can have frustrating consequences. I’m not sure I could handle it because I know the pressure can be high.”
On Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, the commission met to discuss soliciting resumes, the interview process and operational duties during the selection process. The commission is pleased to say that Leonard Rockwell has agreed to take on the temporary role of EA during the hiring process.
He assumes duties on Jan. 2, 2019.
Resumes will be accepted until Jan. 15, 2019, and may be submitted in person, by mail, fax, or by email to Judge Brian Lee, 100 W 1st, Suite 200, Mt. Pleasant, TX 75455; fax 903-577-6793; or email email@example.com. Interviews will begin shortly before or after this date.
