The Lions shot a three-round total of 846 (275-285-286, +6) on the par 70 course, beating UAFS by three strokes. The third-place school was 25 strokes back of the A&M-Commerce Lions.
A&M-Commerce won the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate and The Classic at Firewheel earlier in the season and claimed top-five finishes in eight of their nine regular-season events.
Three Lions placed in the top five of the event to claim all-tournament honors. Lucas McCubbin and Wilfredo Sanchez tied for runner-up honors at 209 (-1) in the tournament, each shooting 1-over par 71 in Tuesday’s round.
Sanchez was solid all the way around the course, carding three birdies and four bogeys on the day. McCubbin had two birdies and three bogeys in his final round. This is Sanchez’ third top-five finish of the year and the second top-five placement of the season for McCubbin.
Blake Hartford placed fifth at 213 (+3), shooting a five-over 75 in his final round. This is the third top-five placement of the season for the sophomore.
Garrett Landers placed 11th on the leaderboard at 219 (+9) for a career low. He carded two birdies Tuesday on the way to a 1-over par 71 for his best round of the season. Joe Wolcik placed 23rd at 224 (+14), carding a 73 with an eagle and a birdie to close out the event.
The Lions will now prepare for the Lone Star Conference Championship on April 23-24 at Diamondback Golf Club in Abilene.
