A new era of presidency for Texas A&M University-Commerce is on the horizon.

Dr. Ray Keck III announced his intent to step down from the presidency effective Aug. 31, allowing for a new president to take over Sept. 1. Keck said although his time as president has been rewarding and challenging, he is ready to return to his true passion: teaching.

“To have served as a president in the Texas A&M University System for almost 17 years and in two universities has been for me, and for [my wife] beside me, the high point of our professional lives,” Keck said. “It is time to redirect passion and energy, to return to teaching and to continue to assist, in every helpful way, a new leader for A&M Commerce,” Keck said.

Keck took over as interim president of Texas A&M University-Commerce in June 2016 following the suicide of the previous president, Dr. Dan Jones. He was named the permanent president by the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents on Nov. 10, 2016.
